Instructions Before Endodontic Treatment
The procedure will be performed using local anesthesia, so there are no postoperative restrictions concerning driving or returning to work. Should a problem arise, a doctor will be available for consultation.
You may continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. Please call our office if you have a question or concern.
Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable before your treatment.
If you have been advised to use antibiotic premedication, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. You will only need to premedicate for the treatment appointment.
If you have any questions, feel free to call our office.
Home Care Instructions
Your treated tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly sore for several days from manipulation during treatment. This soreness is normal. Do not chew food on the treated side until your endodontic therapy is complete and your tooth has been covered with a permanent restoration by your dentist. You should continue your regular dental hygiene regimen of brushing and flossing. If you experience discomfort, you may take Ibuprofen or Tylenol as directed.
Discomfort
After your root canal system has been permanently sealed, your endodontic treatment is complete. However the outer surface will only be sealed with a temporary restoration, so you must have a follow-up appointment with your restorative dentist as soon as possible to place the permanent restoration. A complete report of treatment will be sent to your restorative dentist.
A follow-up examination is included in your treatment to evaluate the progress of healing. It will only take a few minutes and there will be no additional fee.
