Oral Surgeon Sacramento

On the day of the surgery, only soft food and liquids should be eaten. It’s important to avoid any hot liquids or food. You should return to a normal diet as soon as you feel comfortable.

You should take pain medication as soon as you feel the anesthetic wearing off. For moderate pain, take one or two Tylenol or Ibuprofen every three to four hours. For severe pain, take the prescribed medication as directed.

Be sure to take any prescribed antibiotics as directed to help prevent infection.

The night of the surgery, use the prescribed Peridex Oral Rinse before bed. The following day, you should use the Peridex rinse twice daily, after breakfast and before bed. A warm salt-water rinse should be used at least four to five times per day, especially after meals. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene to promote good healing. Brushing should not be an issue, but be gentle in the surgical areas.

Keep physical activity to a minimum immediately after surgery. Exercise may cause throbbing or bleeding. If this occurs, you should stop exercising.

Partial dentures, flippers or full dentures should not be worn after surgery for at least ten days, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
